The Fighting Formats

For this tournament we will be competing using four of the most popular fighting formats in Buhurt. Longsword, Sword and Buckler, Sword and Heater, and Melees.

Longsword

In Longsword dueling two fighters will compete for points using a 2-handed sword. Strikes on the head, hands, limbs and body will be tallied. Whichever fighter scores the most points will win the round.

Sword and Buckler

Buckler duelists wield a 1-handed sword and a small buckler shield. The small shield can be used for blocking, but is often also used to obscure ones opponents vision. As with Longsword, Strikes on the head, hands, limbs and body will be tallied.

Sword and Heater

The heater shield is far larger than the buckler, thus the strategy each fighter uses will be vastly different. This shield offers far more protection, but is far heavier and less maneuverable. As with the other formats, strikes on the head, hands, limbs and body count for points.

Melee

Teams will compete in a series of 3v3 group fights. They may substitute fighters between rounds. When a fighter is knocked over, they are out for the round. Last team standing wins the round.

The Tournament Format

Our “Open the Armory” format is broken up into 4 quarters, each lasting 1 hour. We start with our three duels formats and conclude with the melees. Each duels round won will score the fighters team 1 point. For the melees, each fighter left standing at the end of the round will score their team 1 point. The winner will be the team with the most points at the end of the day.

Duels Formats

The captain of each team will select three fighters to compete in each of the 3 duels formats. Fighter can compete in as many formats as they’d like. The captain then select which position each fighter will be in the roster (see Scoresheet).

The teams will face off in a series matches against their opposing teams. Each match will consist of 9 individual rounds, designed in such a way that each fighter competes against each of the opposing teams fighters as outlined in the scoresheet.

If we have time, matches will be held in a round robin format. If we have a larger turnout we will employ winners brackets and losers brackets so we can fit all the fights into our 1 hour window.

At the beginning of each match, the captain will select which position each of their fighters will fight in. This will effect the order of the rounds.
